SMART Method: How to Set Tasks to Achieve the Desired Result
How to improve your results at work — try planning tasks using the SMART system. This method is suitable for solving cases and any other goals: strategic, creative and technical. In the article, we have prepared instructions on how to correctly formulate a task and provided examples from practice.Important rule: not only the management, but also the performer is responsible for the correct formulation of the task. It seems that if the manager did not provide detailed information, then he is to blame for the poor result. But since the specialist did not clarify anything, it means that the task was clear to him. Let's look at an example of an unsuccessful formulation.
The manager hastily gives the intern the task of preparing two posts for social networks. An hour later, another task arrives: "check the dynamics of competitors' product promotion." The social media marketing service newbie drops everything and starts making a presentation, which took him several hours. He put off writing the posts, because he decided that the task with competitors was more important. At the end of the day, it turns out that the manager only needed a small graph with key data, and not a file with many slides. And right now, he urgently needs ready-made texts for the group, which the specialist has not started.
This situation could have been avoided if the specialist had used the SMART principle and asked a few clarifying questions.
